Winx takes the 2018 Turnbull Stakes in emphatic fashion

The Turnbull Stakes and the Epsom are the main features at Flemington and Randwick today. A total of 4 scheduled Group Ones signal an emphatic return of the Spring racing carnivals, after close of the football seasons.

Each week at Villagebet, we offer a unique perspective to form analysis by trying to identify winners based historical precedents.

This type of analysis puts traditional form study aside and can come up with tips with extremely good value.

This weekend is no different with many selections offering great value for our punters.

Today’s Group 1 features in Sydney

The $505,000 Flight Stakes for the three year old fillies is the first Group One of the day at Randwick.

This year’s edition is relatively easy to analyse because Funstar and Probabeel also ran the quinella in the Tea Rose Stakes. Precedence says Funstar is the best bet, however Probabeel is likely to improve. A choice of two for the punters.

The Epsom Mile at Randwick

The G1 Epsom is the middle leg in the Group 1 trio today at Randwick. While this field is a little lacking in top level quality, we still need to find a winner.

The main lead-up races are the George Main, Bill Ritchie and the Cameron. Any horse finishing in the top four in any of those 3 races are contenders, but interestingly the winner of the Cameron is the horse to eliminate.

This criteria leaves Dreamforce, Kolding, Cascadian, Nettoyer, Kaonic and Desert Lord as the possibilities. There is a precedent for horses from Melbourne doing well. Also WFA races feature prominently, which points to Fifty Stars.

Historical precedence points to Dreamforce $7.50 as the main bet while Desert Lord $26.00 is the each way play. Nettoyer $34.00 is the standout longshot. I can see another roughie, Mr Marathon Man, as a top four finisher because he drops from the WFA racing to a handicap.

Also noteworthy is that our esteemed Mayor has identified Mr Marathon Man $67.00 as a lucky longshot for the day.

The third of the Group 1’s at Randwick is The Metropolitan. While changes in the program make it difficult to get a precedent, our focus will be on the the Kingston Town Stakes and the Naturalism. These two races highlighted Stampede, Brimham Rocks, Gallic Chieftain, Grey Lion, Sir Charles Road, Come Play With Me and Big Duke.

The main bet for the Epsom is Sir Charles Road $23.00. Brimham Rocks $4.60 is also an attractive bet. Gallic Chieftain $16.00 and Grey Lion $23.00 can be supported in the exotics.

Our Mayor tells me he had an insider tip from Ballarat during the week, but made me swear not to tell anyone. OK Sir!

Turnbull Stakes features at headquarters

Hard to forget last year’s Turnbull Stakes where Winx came storming home in the last 100m to win going away.

This year the Turnbull Stakes is Race 7 on an outstanding program at Flemington.

From a historical perspective, the George Main and Hill Stakes are usually the key guides. The Makybe Diva Stakes is the form line from Melbourne.

With no runners from the two Sydney races, the Makybe Diva is the main lead-up form guide. Mystic Journey, Mr Quickie, Hartnell, Rostropovich and Kings Will Dream are each featured.

After we use our patented form filter, we settle on Mr Quickie $3.40 as the main bet. Hartnell $10 and Rostropovich $14 are good value bets. Mystic Journey should be included in the exotics however trifecta punters may risk her. They are banking on this being her first try at 2000m.

While there is no precedent for Finche or Vow And Declare, both have the ability to hit the board , and perhaps sneak a win.

Turnbull Stakes is our Trifecta play

Head on over to our Racing Tips page for the Trifecta Strategy for today, which happens to be in the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington. Last week’s Trifecta play was successful, paying $233.70
