Discover hidden value in horse race entries

February 22, 2019 | By More

When looking for hidden value in horse racing betting, it pays to keep a close eye on nominations and acceptances for the big races.

Sometimes a horse will appear in the acceptances that was previously thought not to be running.

This represents hidden value for punters.

A change of heart from connections might see a horse unexpectedly appear in the acceptances.

This horse will be over the odds due to the initial lack of interest.

However, news of the entry will quickly spread and the odds will tighten sharply.

For a brief moment though, considerable hidden value may be available.

The Black Heart Bart example

In one example, it was thought Black Heart Bart would be spelled immediately after finishing unplaced in the Goodwood in South Australia.

He was therefore taken out of early markets for the $700,000 Darley Kingsford-Smith Cup at Eagle Farm, Queensland.

However, trainer Darren Weir announced the 6YO gelding would make the trip to Brisbane!

His name re-appeared in the entries early in the week with odds of $9-$13 in many markets.

He shortened eventually to $3.70 favourite for the race, a far cry from the $9 on offer earlier.

Astute punters grabbed the juicy odds on Black Heart Bart as soon as they saw his name among the entries.

It would have been a brutal result for bookmakers if Black Heart Bart had saluted.

Bookmakers were ready to lay off, as their holdings were too heavily weighted towards Black Heart Bart.

Be ready to pounce on hidden value

We keep a close eye on Unibet markets as they offer the best odds of all the corporates.

We always look for hidden value for our racing selections.

In particular, we advise to keep an eye out for unexpected entries and pay attention to breaking news regarding horse’s programs.

The lesson is to keep a close eye on acceptances and be ready to pounce when announcements are made regarding the top quality entrants.

Attractive odds may be in play.
